| Education & Consultation: Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) | |||||||||
|
The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) is the new Canadian neonatal stabilization program designed for health professionals who may be called upon to care for at-risk newborns and their families, regardless of experience or training in neonatal emergencies. The ACoRN textbook was developed by a multidisciplinary team of clinical experts from across Canada. The ACoRN textbook provides a systematic approach to the identification and management of infants requiring stabilization following initial resuscitation. ACoRN emphasizes teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach. ACoRN Textbooks are available for purchase online from the ACoRN web site- www.acornprogram.net Since 2006 ACoRN workshops have been held in Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 facilities across Alberta. The ACoRN teaching team encourages the workshop participants to use the ACoRN primary survey and sequences in their clinical practice. The ACoRN teaching team also encourages the use of the ACoRN primary survey and sequences in orientation programs and lectures. APHP is currently participating in a national committee to develop ACoRN in a Nutshell, a new education program that will replace the ACoRN workshops. Stay tuned to the APHP web site for more information regarding ACoRN in a Nutshell’s progress. |
