Purpose
- The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) is the new Canadian neonatal
stabilization program designed for health professionals who may be
called upon to care for at-risk newborns and their families, regardless
of experience or training in neonatal emergencies.
Content
- Immediate management for the newborn at birth is taught in the NRP
Program. There is no widely accepted national or international resource
for the health professionals in post resuscitation stabilization and
transport of the newborn.
- The ACoRN textbook was developed by a multidisciplinary team of clinical
experts from across Canada in response to this gap.
- The ACoRN textbook provides a systematic approach to the identification
and management of infants requiring stabilization following initial
resuscitation.
- ACoRN emphasizes teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach.
Availability
- The ACoRN textbook will serve as the foundation for an education
program that aims to teach the concepts of basic skills and neonatal
stabilization and where necessary, preparation for transport to a referral
facility. This textbook does not replace communication and consultation
with a tertiary hospital but rather to provide referral hospitals with
a concise, easy to remember tool to help organize the assessment and
interventions necessary to stabilize the newborn.
- The APHP will facilitate the coordinated implementation of ACoRN
in Alberta.
- Stayed tuned to the APHP website for more information regarding when
workshops will be available.
- ACoRN Textbooks are available for purchase online from the ACoRN web site- www.acornprogram.net
