| Education and Consultation: Alberta Perinatal Professional Electronic Library (APPEL) | ||||||||||
|
The Alberta Perinatal Health Program (APHP), together with its partners, is implementing an Alberta Perinatal Professionals Electronic Library (APPEL) that will eventually include preconception, prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and infant health information. In addition, APPEL will include forms and tools to support evidence informed practice, program planning and data management. This suite of interactive support tools is available on an innovative, web based electronic platform, accessible 24 hours 7 days a week to Alberta health professions. The APHP has identified a content structure for APPEL that follows a Library approach. The structure is as follows:
APHP has developed a shelf named Strategies for Teaching Obstetrics to Rural and Urban Caregivers (STORC). STORC is 32 interactive e-learning modules with a focus in labour and birth. The APHP, in partnership with Health Promotion, Disease and Injury Prevention, has developed the Healthy Maternal Weight Gain education module for the APPEL web based electronic platform. The information on Healthy Maternal Weight Gain is the first in a series of chapters related to preconception, prenatal and postpartum care. The healthy weight information will be of interest to all those involved in working with women to achieve optimal maternal weight gain and postpartum weight loss. |
