Purpose
- The NRP instructor course will provide the individual with the skills to instruct the clinical skill used in neonatal resuscitation and administrate the NRP Provider course in his/her institution.
Course Content
- The NRP Instructor Course provides information on the role of the NRP Instructor, the concepts of adult education as they apply to NRP, the steps involved in administrating a NRP course, and practical sessions on teaching NRP.
- The new NRP instructor course provides you an opportunity to become familiar with the scientific documents used to develop the revised guidelines and to develop strategies to teach effectively.
- The focus of the new instructor course will be on conducting Performance Skills Stations, Integrated Skills Stations and Simulation & Debriefing.
- The course concludes with a written examination and a megacode.
Length
Availability
- Offered both in Edmonton and Calgary at least twice each year by the APHP. NRP Instructor courses with the 6th edition curriculum will be offered after all the NRP Instructor Update courses are completed. Please see website calendar for dates.
Registration
- Registration is limited to physicians, registered nurses, registered midwives, respiratory therapists and paradmedics who have current NRP provider registration (Lessons 1-9) and who are supported by their supervisor or delegate to teach in their facility and/or zone.
- Instructor candidates must submit a letter of support from their facility and/or zone at the time of registration.
- Obtaining NRP Instructor status is a 3 step process. Step 1 is successfully complete NRP Instructor course. Step 2 is to successfully “team teach” an NRP Provider course with an NRP Instructor Trainer or experienced NRP instructor. Step 3 is completing the NRP Instructor Registration Form and sending it to the CPS with the $85.00 registration fee.

- Participants will be responsible for purchase of the Neonatal Resuscitation Instructor Manual 2011 edition as well as the Neonatal Resuscitation Program Textbook 6th edition and any additional arrangements and costs incurred such as transportation, parking, meals, accommodation, etc.
